His parents were Polish. He attends Academy of Fine Arts in Łódzż (1946–1950) and Warsaw (1946–1956). Works as a painter and graphic designer until mid ’60s, when he begins his lifelong series of number paintings and drawings, exploring passage of time as a linear phenomenon. His paintings have an aural component, a taped recording of the artist enunciating the count (in Polish). Another painting cycle, Description of the World (1968 onward, inspired by Marco Polo), approaches the same problem from a different angle. – Lives in France.
